The Census Bureau’s web site includes a page called “Uncle Sam’s Reference Shelf: Mini Historical Statistics.” Providing quick access to historical statistics, this page links to PDF and Excel files with tables of popular historical census information such as population, immigration, households by type and size, vital statistics, educational attainment, crimes, income, employment, marital status, and votes cast for president. More detailed information can be found in the library in the Historical Statistics of the United States, Colonial Times to 1970. Current or more recent statistics can be found in the Statistical Abstract, in paper in the library or online on the Census web site.
