Transparency International

Transparency International is an important source of information on corruption in countries around the world. It is a non-partisan, civil society organization composed of a network of 90 local chapters that fight corruption through advocacy campaigns, lobbying, and promotion of transparency in elections, public adminstration, procurement and business.

Perhaps the most important publication is the annual Corruption Perceptions Index (1995- ), which is a ranking of over 150 countries in terms of perceived levels of corruption. (The CPI is also available from the Internet Center for Corruption Research).

Other publications available to the public are:

  • Bribe Payers’ Index (BPI): an index ranking the supply side of corruption, by source country and industry sector.
  • Global Corruption Barometer (GCB): public opinion survey assessing the perception and experience of corruption as experienced by the general public in more than 60 countries.

Also see the Policy and Research section for issue and policy briefs, the anti-corruption handbook, and the TI digital library.
